become a pb+j nanny
Do you love working with children?
We're always looking for kind, dedicated caregivers to join our collective. If you're passionate about making a difference in a child’s life, we’d love to meet you!
We’re recruiting for:
Nanny
Nannies provide consistent, loving care in a child’s daily life. From routines to enrichment, nannies support families full-time or part-time and become trusted partners in the home.
Specialist
Whether its advanced or high-demand roles like newborn care, overnight support, travel, or ROTA. These positions require experience, flexibility, and often specialized training.
Babysitting
Babysitters provide short-term or occasional care—think date nights, school closures, or backup coverage when a family’s regular caregiver is unavailable.
Sitting is a great fit for caregivers who love flexibility, want to support multiple families, or are building experience while pursuing other work or studies.
Nanny Candidate Standards
Minimum Age Requirement
Must be at least 18 years old.
Professional Childcare Experience
At least 3 years of recent, professional childcare experience. This means paid work beyond helping friends or family—such as roles as a nanny, newborn care provider, educator, or in a licensed childcare setting. Experience must be within the last 4 years.
CPR and First Aid Certification
Must be Adult/Pediatric CPR and First Aid certified, or willing to obtain certification prior to placement.
We will cover the cost of certification for candidates moving forward in the placement process.
Background & Safety Screening
All candidates must:
Submit to a comprehensive background check
Complete a reference verification
Undergo a social media screening
Pb+J Collective covers the cost of all required background screenings.
Professional References
Must provide at least 3 professional childcare or caregiving references who can speak to your reliability, skill, and character.
Legal Work Authorization
Must be legally eligible to work in the United States.
Reliable Transportation
Must have a reliable vehicle and a valid driver’s license. Some families may request a copy of your driving record, which you must be willing to provide.
Professionalism & Communication
We expect all candidates to:
Demonstrate clear, respectful communication
Arrive on time and prepared
Represent themselves and our agency with integrity and professionalism
Engaged, Present, and Passionate
We seek caregivers who love what they do—those who are attentive, nurturing, and confident in creating a safe, enriching environment for children.
Get Started
Step 1: Let’s Get to Know Each Other
We like to kick things off with a quick 30-minute phone chat—just a casual conversation to learn more about you, your experience, and what kind of nanny role you're dreaming of.
If it feels like a good match, we’ll invite you to schedule a virtual interview where we can dive a little deeper. We’ll talk about your past roles, what you’re great at, and how you handle common caregiving scenarios.
Ready to get started? You can fill out our full application or submit the quick form below. We always love seeing resumes and cover letters too—they help us get a fuller picture of who you are and what makes you shine.
Step 2: Time to Make It Official
Once you've completed your two interviews, we’ll invite you to officially join our roster of trusted care providers—yay!
As part of onboarding, you’ll get access to your very own nanny portal where you’ll build out your profile, upload documents, sign our agreements, and showcase what makes you you. This is the profile families will see, so we’ll guide you on how to make it shine.
We'll also take care of a few important safety steps:
A full-use criminal background check
Reference verification
A social media screening
CPR & First Aid certification (we cover the cost!)
We’ll walk you through everything—we’re here to make sure you feel supported every step of the way.
Step 3: Let’s Find Your Match
Now the real fun begins—matching you with a family!
Once you’re onboarded, you’ll get access to our full list of open positions. You can apply directly to the ones that catch your eye, and we’ll also be reviewing your profile closely to suggest opportunities that may be a great fit based on your experience, preferences, and vibe.
When we see a potential match, we’ll share your profile with the family and handle all the coordination for your interview. Most families prefer to meet virtually, but some may request an in-person conversation. Either way, a Pb+J team member will be there to support you through the process and help guide the conversation.
We’ll also give you a list of thoughtful interview questions to help you shine—and to remind you that you’re interviewing the family too. The best matches are mutual!
Step 4: The Playdate (a.k.a. Your Trial Day!)
Before any final decisions are made, we ask all families and nannies to complete a paid trial day—what we like to call the “playdate.”
This working interview gives everyone a chance to see how the day-to-day really feels. You’ll get to tour the home, go over routines and expectations, and—most importantly—spend some meaningful time with the children.
We’ll set you up with tips on what to expect and how to put your best foot forward. It’s your chance to see if this is a family you feel excited to support—and their chance to see your magic in action.
Step 5: You’re Hired!
Once you and the family agree it’s a great match, it’s time to make things official.
Here’s how it works: the family becomes your direct employer—Pb+J Collective is not your employer. We strongly encourage all of our families to follow legal hiring practices, including setting up payroll and providing a W-2 at tax time. To support that, we connect them with trusted payroll providers so you can expect timely direct deposit and proper documentation.
During this stage, we also act as your advocate. We’ll help facilitate any contract conversations and support both sides in negotiating fair pay, benefits, and expectations—making sure you feel confident and valued heading into your new role.
Our support continues even after you’re placed, so you’re never on your own. We’re here for questions, check-ins, and anything that helps your success.
